The Old Harbor Alliance is proud to share the successful delivery of 6,600 pounds of buffalo meat to the Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor. Through the USDA Local Food Purchase Agreement, the Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor contracted with the Old Harbor Alliance for the purchase of bison meat—strengthening food sovereignty and ensuring our people have access to healthy, culturally meaningful foods.
This program did more than move food—it created opportunity. The Alliance hired local community members for harvesting and processing, keeping jobs, skills, and resources right here at home. The team showed up, worked hard, and executed every step with care and professionalism.
We are proud to report that a total of 6,600 pounds of bison meat was delivered to tribal members in Old Harbor, Kodiak, and Anchorage, helping feed families across our community.
Together, we are nourishing our people with healthy, delicious, protein-rich food, supporting local workers, and honoring our connection to the land and traditional food systems.
Quyanaa to everyone who made this possible—this is food sovereignty in action. 💚
