On January 7–8, 2026, community members gathered in Old Harbor for a two-day skin sewing workshop focused on creating fur headbands. The workshop was taught by Alutiiq skin sewer Alexandria Troxell and offered participants a hands-on opportunity to learn traditional sewing techniques in a welcoming, collaborative space.
All materials were provided, allowing participants to focus fully on the learning process—from preparing the fur to completing a finished headband they could proudly take home. The workshop emphasized skill-sharing, cultural knowledge, and the joy of learning together.
This workshop was made possible through grant funding from the Kodiak Community Foundation. We are grateful for the support that helped make this opportunity available to our community.
